From now on, operators of online casinos targeting German players will no longer be able to offer Visa and MasterCard as a payment option. These two payment solution companies would have asked online casinos offering their products and services to the Germans to stop offering Visa and MasterCard otherwise these casinos would lose access to these services for other markets.
You should know that only sports betting is legal in Germany, meanwhile, online casinos are still illegal. This is one of the main reasons for this ban on offering Visa and MasterCard payment solutions to Germans.
Earlier this week, German media Norddeutscher Rundfunk reported that since the end of May, German banks have received instructions from the US financial services giant Visa. Indeed, the latter can no longer honor the financial transactions of online casinos targeting German players.
It seems that MasterCard users are also hard pressed. Indeed, several players have been refused the use of their MasterCard on online gaming sites. When asked why such a dysfunction, German casinos simply stated that they had opted for the outright ban of these two companies from their payment option.
A representative of the company Visa having specified that only legal transactions can benefit from the use of its credit cards, online casinos had no other choice than to fall back on other methods of online payment.
However, not all online casinos have treated this situation in the same way. While some operators have chosen the abolition of Visa – like Tipico – others like bwin have instead adopted the use of Visa credit cards only for sports betting; at least officially, because a survey carried out by the German media previously quoted reveals that the financial transactions via the Visa cards still allowed for Germans.
